Atlantic Subsurface Imaging performed Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning of a three acre cemetery located behind the Minisink Reformed Church in Montague, NJ. The cemetery association in charge of the care of the cemetery asked Atlantic to locate and map all graves in the cemetery – both marked and unmarked. Because the ownership of the cemetery had passed through a few hands since the 1800’s, the accuracy and completeness of the records were in question. After locating the graves with ground penetrating radar, Atlantic optically surveyed the cemetery and recorded the locations of all graves, headstones, footstones, and monuments. The cemetery association was given a CAD file and hardcopy drawings of the survey. As an added bonus, Atlantic provided the customer with a drawing that had been printed on transparent plastic. This drawing was plotted at the same scale as a hand-drawn sketch that showed the plot allocations of the cemetery. This allowed the preservation society to overlay our grave locations onto the existing plot allocation drawing, which dated back to 1947.
